I think it is a nice compromise between performance, build, compactness and price (mine cost me £35 in the UK, including a PKM adapter!).

I have compared it in the past with the legendary Tamron 180/2.5 SP lens and, although there is a difference, it's not that great. I find the 200/3.5 surprisingly decent even wide open, and my copy performs better than previous Pentax 200/4 SMCM lenses that I've used.

One issue on cropped sensors is that the built in hood is far too short - and to improve contrast and reduce flare you really need to attach a screw-in hood instead.

Jon SchickAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34648316.post-85658651784717237912010-09-19T14:54:23.718-07:002010-09-19T14:54:23.718-07:00@AD2/KA problems, please visit my blog post on Tam...@AD2/KA problems, please visit my blog post on Tamron adaptall-2 p/ka adapter for details. Most of my 4 p/ka adapters have this problem, you need to try to clean 1) the contacts on the adapter and 2) try to wiggle the connection in mounting to get connection on the contacts properlyHin Manhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11542007867767875530noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34648316.post-78598885248938463372010-09-18T11:56:17.414-07:002010-09-18T11:56:17.414-07:00Hello again Hin Man and thanks for all your tests ...Hello again Hin Man and thanks for all your tests of old good lenses.
I have an other question for you.
I found the Tamron ring AD2/KA but... but i realize the lenses become slower on APS-C. So the 28mm 2.5 is only 4 and a 35/135 3.5/4.2, 4 again all over the range.
Do you see a reason for that ?
Thank you, sir.
PhilipAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34648316.post-8341148218290060692010-09-14T19:27:58.376-07:002010-09-14T19:27:58.376-07:00@Tom, thank you for your visit and kind comments. ...@Tom, thank you for your visit and kind comments. Yes, I really love my family shot where my wife and 2 boys were in different angle and I was able to capture the shot within good focus.

And I have learned it the hard way too in that a good lens in the tele-end as in 200mm, 300mm and even 500mm can produce a compressed view of the scenery. I love my 200mm in sunset much more than a wide angle can provide. The wide angle view leave little for the sun to be the focus of beauty in the scene. And many outstanding landscapes shots that I have seen come from 35mm or even a 100mm and it varies with a wide focal lengthHin Manhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11542007867767875530noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34648316.post-56433534664566131242010-09-13T21:17:03.455-07:002010-09-13T21:17:03.455-07:00The other thing I forgot to mention was that many ...The other thing I forgot to mention was that many people believe that landscape shots require a wide angle lens. Your photos prove that telephoto can be used for landscapes too.Tomnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34648316.post-64084099283633184412010-09-13T21:15:15.395-07:002010-09-13T21:15:15.395-07:00Hin, beautiful sunset shots! Not too busy with only a little outlining on the circles. 200mm is really good to enhance the 3D effect, nice 3D family portrait.Tomnoreply@blogger.com
