Other samples of soft pictures in DA 18-55 that prompt me to look for better portrait lens for indoor use that can serve as replacement for the kit's len. In clicking the above pictures and see a larger size in Flickr, the faces of the Japanese dolls are soft and not as sharp as I would like.

You should check you posts before posting. The pictures you link to are marked as private in Flickr, so other people can't watch them ...
plus you have rather long exposure times there. It is rather likely that the issue here is camera shake (even a (sub-)pixel amount leaves the perception of softness)
