Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 Di Macro Test Shots

2008-02-22
A couple of test shots with Valentine flower and my boys. These are all taken in f/2.8 and post processed in Picasa with Filtered B&W. I have set wrong on +2 on saturation on bright mode
and hence
the conversion to b&w

Wesley with K100D and Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 With few snapshots taken, I find the lens quite sharp wide open comparing to my Pentax SMC FA 28-105 f/3.2-4.5. I like the lens for the sharpness and color but I find it a bit heavy for walk around and frequent use. Perhaps, I need sometime to get adjusted to the heavier weight.

Impressions & Notes:
  • This quality zoom has taken me a while to truly appreciate its quality. I initially had some whining on its heavier weight compared to my other zoom lens in that focal range
  • Lens at wide open aperture has sharp images
  • Bokeh is pretty decent and some images in f/2.8 match that with my prime with Pentax FA 50 f/1.4
  • Color has tendency to go warmer than my liking. I am not sure if it is my white balance. A couple of shootings result in warmer images in portraits that I turn to black & white instead
  • I find the lens better suited for Portraits and I like it very much in shooting fireworks
  • Close focus is capable although the magnification is stated around 1:3.9. I find the lens quite good for indoor product shots. A lot of my product shots for trimming lens are done with this lens.
  • Though 28mm is not wide after the digital crop, I find the focal range better suited for my casual walk around, more so than the kit's focal range of 18-55
  • Pictures tried on films seem to have a bit overexposures. Maybe an isolated shooting instance.
  • A highly recommended quality zoom for a budget that covers the good range of 28, 50, and 75mm.
